This may be a gratuitous thread of pictures of Spaceships created by AI. Not just the geometry, but the texturing and such, too. This isn’t to say the designs are perfect. However, these designs are a considerable step forward from what I was doing before I made some tweaks to Blender.

For week3 of the Summer into AI competition, I discovered that Hermes could install Blender and even do a pretty good job building models from scratch. I realized that if I added some helper utilities to Blender, such as scripts or add-ons, that I could extend what any coding agent could do with that connection. Blender scripts or add-ons could be viewed like macros or plugins, it’s all similar in style: functionality you can bolt onto Blender to make it easier to get things done.

And in this thread, it’ll be a sampling of spaceships. The sci-fi ship is one of the easier things to model, for sure. You can take a box shape, and just extrude, shape, twist and extend your way to a spaceship. They are fun to make, and there’s still a good place to make them by hand.
One of the key questions I had wasn’t just getting the spaceships to be generated, but could I also get them built with better texturing/shader support?

This doesn’t mean the spaceships are any less.. weird. And perhaps ships in space should be weird. AI is as close to alien intelligence as humans have had the good fortune to interact with, and it seems like some of the concepts are out there.

And some of the ship builds are really unusual-it has me wonder about the far future if AI is given a ship manufacturing on some asteroid built and just builds spaceships all day, what kind of fantastic designs might it come up with? Maybe there’s some AI mind sitting in a factory somewhere in deep space-whose creators have long gone, but there supply of raw materials is infinite so over the eons it just builds weirder and weirder spaceships. Entire vast stretches of a solar system somewhere in the galaxy an effective boneyard.

I’ll be writing about more types of things tomorrow. Like gates!

This article link goes into an early exploration of using AI to build geometry in 3D via Blender. It’s a simple Star Trek meets NoMansSky concept game, and I’ve included some video and screenshots so you can see how it turned out.
